Norma Jean Ide-Sabanis

December 20, 1948 – September 26, 2025

Surrounded by a Circle of Love, Norma Jean Ide – Sabanis passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025. She was the devoted wife to her late beloved husband John Sabanis. Born on December 20, 1948, she was the loving daughter of the late Mildred (née Smith) and the late Robert C. Ide. Norma worked for Pfizer for over 30 years and was loved by so many for her desire to help others and her kindness.

Norma’s heart was as big as her smile. She was the loving “mother” to her cherished dog, Nicholas, and a godmother to many who were lucky enough to know her warmth. She is also survived by Nick and Nicole Bavaro, the twins whom she and John loved as their own. Every Saturday while they were growing up, their home was filled with laughter, play and cherished stories shared around the table. These moments became cherished memories for them all. To Norma (Nonie) and John, Nick and Nicole were lovingly known as “our babies,” a bond that brought endless joy, fulfillment, and a sense of family that filled their hearts.

She was deeply blessed with devoted neighbors and caregivers who became part of her extended family. Her caregiver Kayleigh became not only her angel, but also the daughter she never had. Kayleigh's devotion and love for Norma was endless, beyond her work, a gift that blessed her life.

Norma was known for her kindness, laughter, and unmistakable spark. With her fun-loving spirit, sass, and infectious energy, she could light up any room she entered. Her love for life—and for the people and pets who filled it—brought joy and laughter to everyone around her.

Norma’s love and kindness touched each of them in a special way. She often would include F.R.O.G. on notes, reminding all of us to “Fully Rely on God”. In her memory, let's fear less and hope and love more.

Memorial Visitation will be Tuesday, October 21, 2025, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. Tributes to Norma (“Nonie” to many) will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a favorite memory or story to share as we celebrate her life. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 10am at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church, 920 Granville Ave., Park Ridge, IL 60068. Interment will be private.
