Pat was such a lovely person. She subbed for me at Algonquin a few times, and I loved seeing her happy face. She will be missed. My thoughts go out to you and your family during this difficult time. I am truly sorry to hear of this news. She was a beautiful person.

I've known Mrs. Schumacher ever since I was a little, little kid and I always felt like the coolest classmate when she was a substitute teacher and I'd say she was my neighbor. Every kid's face would light up and they'd all say how lucky I was that I got to live on the same block as this amazing woman. Every time she saw me she'd have a big smile on her face and give me the biggest hug and kiss on the cheek. She never failed to brighten my days or my hopes. Even when my father passed away she was a comfort, along with her husband Ralph, when they brought us a home cooked meal and checked on us time and time again. She will truly be missed and remembered for days to come. We all loved her so much.

2nd Ave will never be the same! We will miss seeing Patti walk her beloved dogs, Jack, Pirate and Charlie multiple times a day, stopping to visit with every neighbor that was out. She was always so concerned about everyone else and always had time to visit! She was a ray of sunshine, a firecracker, and extremely giving soul! Our block party this year will have a giant void without Patti but we will be sure to honor and celebrate her. RIP Patt 💜💕

Patti was my substitute on many occasions and over time we became friends. During those years I learned that Patti’s heart was bigger than her whole body. She was an extremely warm and loving woman and I could always count on her to be there for me and the students. God bless you Patti, you will be missed!!

I remember being in middle school , the kids would pass the word around that mrs Schumacher was substituting for a certain teacher . So if you had that teacher you knew you had her. When I would walk into my classroom I then knew that period was going to be a wonderful 45 mins . I was always the “bad kid” so my regular teacher had specific instructions to make sure I sat next to the teachers desk whenever a substitute was taking charge for the day. Usually I would get mad but it was her . So how could I ever be mad at that? And she would always tell me that no matter what to always follow my dreams , she would also give me candy and gum and we would talk and I remember making her laugh everytime I saw her. She always remembered my name . She was bright and positive and so happy and sweet . I hope you Rest In Peace you beautiful soul , I’m pretty sure I can speak for all of the Algonquin middle schoolers that you were the absolute best and that we will miss you forever. We love you .

The kids always were excited to see that Patti was the substitute teacher because she was kind, friendly, caring, and helpful. She has such a kind spirit. She always had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. She always spoke fondly of her son, husband, and (at the time soon-to-be) daughter in law. May you be comforted by happy memories during this difficult time. My deepest sympathies to all of you. She will be missed.
