Philomena Viegas

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of our mother's passing. Philomena Viegas was a wonderful woman who was loved by all who met her. She was very active in her church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting shawls and blankets for the Church Shawl Ministry and her grandchildren.

We will remember her many remarkable qualities. She was resilient and lived with a heart condition for over 20 years. She was spirited in many ways: becoming a military nurse, immigrating to the US, and living independently into her 80's. She was incredibly hard working, often working multiple nursing jobs. She lived a good life and will be cherished by her four daughters, their husbands, and six grandchildren.

The wake will be held on Wednesday evening, May 3, from 4pm - 8pm at Oehler Funeral Home at 2099 Miner Street in Des Plaines, IL 60016. The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 4th, 10 am at St. Mary Church at 794 Pearson Street in Des Plaines, IL 60016. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St Mary's Church, American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
