Raymond C. Swanson of Des Plaines since 1960 Raymond C. Swanson was the beloved husband of Jean (nee Anderson), to whom he was married for 58 years; dear father of Kristie (Garland) Powell, Paul (Helga), Karen, Eric (Laura) and Craig Swanson; cherished grandfather of Michael (Pamela) Kamin, Dana Graziano, Amber (Keith) Seat, Amanda (Brandon Buckardt) Swanson, Gina Ann Graziano, Ashley Graziano, Andrew, Erika, Kirk, Karl and Hallie Swanson; loving great-grandfather of Fletcher, Rayanna, Cooper, Felix, Emily, Oliver and Dominik; fond brother of Donald (Dory) Swanson and Marjorie (Lee) Hammond; brother-in-law of Evelyn (the late Eugene) Swanson; and devoted uncle of many nieces and nephews. Born April 29, 1928, in Oak Park, he died Oct. 28, 2011, in Park Ridge. Mr. Swanson was an Army veteran, having served as a tank commander during the Korean War. He worked for Illinois Bell for 38 years. Ray was a member of Arlington Heights AFAM Lodge 1162, and St. Martha and Mary Lutheran Church in Mount Prospect. Visitation is Monday, 3 to 9 p.m. at the Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (Northwest Highway/Route 14 at Rand Road), Des Plaines, where friends and family will gather on Tuesday at 10 a.m. for an 11 a.m. service. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
