

The funeral service for Lynne McLaughlin Neslund, (74), formerly of Elgin and St. Charles, Illinois will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 23 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines where she will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Born February 3, 1938 in Princeton, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas A. and Virginia M. (nee Brown) Baker. She passed away on June 19, 2012 due to brain cancer. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Neslund on July 27, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Neslund; her children and step-children, Michelle (Scott) Wilson, Kelly (Edward) Baity, Douglas McLaughlin, Alane (Matthew) Carlson, and Gillian (Timothy) Carlson; her brother, sisters, and sister-in-law, Thomas (Arthur H. Weiner) A. Baker, Jr., Marilee Smith, Janice (David) Riccio, and Myriam Charpentier; her grandchildren, Claire, Emma, Declan, and Maxwell; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Brian C. Baker. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1956 and Northern Illinois University with a Business Degree in 1977, majoring in finance. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of St. Charles, Illinois where she was a former Deacon, Lector, and Church Council member. She was a member and past President of the Geneva-St. Charles League of Women Voters. She was also a member of the Fox Valley Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lynne was the founder of the Leisure Riders Biking Group of St. Charles in 1988. She was also a member of the Twenty First Star Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She spent many years, while living in St. Charles, contributing and volunteering with the Republican Party of Kane County and St. Charles Township as a Precinct Committeeperson, Secretary, and Republican nominee for the Office of Kane County Coroner (1984). She was also appointed in the early 1980’s as a committee member to the Illinois DUI Taskforce by former Governor, James R. Thompson, chaired by former Secretary of State, Jim Edgar. Lynne was employed by Community Contacts as a Program Director for the Illinois Home Energy Assistance Program, from 1982 to 2005 when she retired. Interment will be at a later time at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given for her grandchildren’s educational fund.
