Young Ho was born in Seoul, Korea on February 21, 1949, the oldest son to Park Kap Man and Choi Geum Yun. He graduated from Korea (Koryo) University in 1972. Throughout college and on, he enjoyed playing tennis, golf, skiing, and mountain climbing with friends. In 1978, he went on a date with a girl named Min Aekyung and they bonded over a mutual love of nature. They were married later that same year.
Young Ho and Aekyung immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1979. Young Ho got his master’s degree from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1982, and went on to have a long career, retiring from United Airlines in 2013 as a computer engineer. In his retirement, he played with his grandchildren, traveled, played lots of tennis and golf, and often spent several hours each day walking through local forest preserves with his wife, bonding over the same interest that first brought them together.
When asked to describe her husband of 44 years, his wife simply said he was an “extra, extra cool guy.” His friends will remember him as a carefree and happy friend, the life of the party who laughed easily and was always ready to share a drink. His children will remember him as a supportive father, and a loving grandfather. As a dad, he always had an insightful perspective to offer for any of life’s problems. When it came to showing love, he was a warm but silent type, communicating through 1-2 words, a pat on the back, or an emoji like when he sent a single thumbs up emoji to his daughter after she gave birth to her second child.
We’ll remember him most during long walks on days with beautiful weather, when having a drink with dear friends, and while having deep belly laughs with family and friends.
Young Ho is survived by his wife, Park Aekyung (nee Min); his children, John Park (wife, Tiffany) and Jean Yoon (husband, Samuel); his grandchildren Emily and Max; his sisters Park Hija and Park Mija, and his brother Park Young Sun (wife, Yoon He). He is preceded in death by his father and mother, and his sister Park Young Ae.
