Richard (Dick) C. Root, Jr, 83, of Whitmore Lake passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2019. He was born September 27, 1935 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Richard and Eva Root. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy.
He is survived by his children Vickie L. (Dewight) Plotner, David A. Root, James R. Root, and Teri (Jacob) Girbach; grandchildren Chelsie (Dana) Plotner and Travis (Jamie) Plotner; great grandchildren Parker and Quentin Plotner; and sister Kay Stolte.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother James A. Root.
Dick served as a paratrooper in the United States Army after graduation from Pioneer High School (Ann Arbor, Michigan). Following his military service, he established a small business in Brighton, Michigan. He later spent most of his career as an engineer in the vacuum metalizing business with E&V Plastics and Plating (and subsequent acquisitions of the company). Dick was a man of many skills and could accomplish anything he put his mind to.
Dick enjoyed many adventures from snowmobiling, motorcycle climbing competitions, dune buggies on the Silver Lake sand dunes to fishing on Lake Michigan with friends and family. Dick was a wonderful neighbor and friend to Tom and Diane LaFollette.
He will be missed by all!
Visitation for Dick will be held Friday, September 20th at Hosmer-Muhelig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad St, Dexter, MI 48130. A funeral service in celebration f Dick’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21st, at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel. Dick will be buried at Washtenong Memoriral Park in Ann Arbor, MI.
