

Carol was raised alongside her sister, Martha, in Newfane, New York. The two shared a childhood full of laughter and mischief. She attended Newfane High School and later followed in her father’s footsteps by attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There, she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honor society. Carol later earned her master’s degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University, where she was inducted into The Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Carol devoted her professional life to caring for others, working as a registered nurse in hospitals, schools, and the health department.
She had a deep love for dogs and was actively involved in many dog organizations, including the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club, Marshbanks Golden Retriever Club, and the American Belgian Tervuren Club, among others. She was also a proud member of the Harley-Davidson Owners Club.
Carol is survived by her husband, Tom Haas; her children, Gerald Gillis and Virginia Gillis; her sister, Martha Crawford (John); her stepchildren, Nicholas Haas and Laine Haas; her grandson, Jacob Gillis (Kate); and her beloved dog, Z, whom she loved greatly.
Carol will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, sense of humor, and lifelong love of animals.
