Gary Grant Robinson

Gary Grant Robinson was born on March 25,1949 in Flint, Michigan and passed away suddenly at home on July 22, 2026 in Dexter, Michigan. He was the son of Laurence Shelton Robinson and Bess A Robinson (Hobson) of Clio, Michigan. He was the brother of Dennis Michael Robinson and brother-in-law to Jill Robinson (Wuest) of Traverse City, Michigan. He was a devoted uncle to Samantha Lauren Robinson (deceased,) Sarah Bossoletti of Oxnard, California and Emily Hendry of Traverse City, Michigan. For thirty years, he was a loving spouse to his wife, Mary Elizabeth Robinson (Hendry) of Dexter, Michigan. He was a good friend to many, beloved by his family and extended family. He was intelligent, kind, funny, and generous and will be greatly missed.

He earned Bachelor Degrees from Saginaw Valley State University and Michigan State University. His Master’s degree in Archaeology was from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. After graduation, he co-authorized a book entitled Spatial Patterning in Historical Archaeology: Selected Studies of Settlement (1994.) Later he studied historical preservation and technical writing. Through his pursuit of an education, he wanted to make a contribution to the knowledge of humankind.

He worked archaeology sites in Indiana, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Michigan and published research papers. In Jackson, Michigan, he worked for the cultural resource company of Commonwealth Heritage Group. He ended his career producing technical writing documents for various companies in Detroit, Lansing, Jackson, and Windsor, Ontario.

His interest in ancestry lead him back to Viking origins. He enjoyed pets, music, cigars, coffee, books, and spectator sports. For several years, he volunteered on the Dexter Village Planning Commission. Also, he participated in the restoration project of the Delhi Bridge in Scio Township, Michigan.

Cremation has taken place and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Humane Society. A private memorial gathering for immediate family only will be held in Traverse City at a future date.
