Gershom Lawrence Avery, known to his loved ones as Gersh, passed away on September 18, 2023, in Dexter, Michigan. He was born on November 21, 1954, in Saginaw, Michigan. Gersh was a devoted husband to his wife Judy, a loving son to his mother Neoma Baldwin, a caring father to his son Paul, and a proud grandfather to his grandchildren Pierce, Jordan, and Kaylee. He is also survived by his siblings Ruth Tallman and Michael, as well as numerous half and step-siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Gersh had a passion for understanding how our bodies worked and dedicated his life to helping people find healing for their ailments. He pursued his dreams relentlessly and possessed an empire builder’s mindset, prioritizing the well-being of others over material possessions. He was known to go beyond barriers in pursuit of his goals.
In his educational journey, Gersh attended Frankenmuth Primary School and later graduated from Midland Dow High School. He continued his higher education at Delta College.
Throughout his career, Gersh worked at Dow Chemical, Dow Corning, and pursued computer programming. He also owned Avery Distributors, where he sold computer memory and other hardware. Additionally, he created and distributed Gersh’ PBO topical oil. Gersh took on various driving jobs, including being a school bus driver and delivering pizzas.
Gersh found solace and inspiration in his Christian faith, worshipping at local Christian places of worship.
In his free time, Gersh enjoyed repairing cars, watching disaster movies, and immersing himself in stories from World War history.
Gershom Lawrence Avery will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His dedication to healing and helping others leaves behind a lasting legacy of compassion and perseverance. Gersh is waiting for Christ’s return.
A celebration of life for Gersh will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Columbus Hall & Banquet Center, 8265 Dexter-Chelsea Rd, Dexter, MI 48130.
