Gordon Travis Campbell

Gordon Travis Campbell, age 91, of Michigan, was peacefully called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 7, 2026.

Gordon was born on May 20, 1935, in Canton, Michigan, to Allan Wesley Campbell and Helose Winifred Dunston Travis. He was the oldest of three children and was a beloved brother to Bruce Campbell, who preceded him in death and whom he is now joyfully reunited with in Heaven, and Susan Campbell of Collingwood, Canada. He was very proud of the Campbell name and his Scottish descent; he reminded everyone by wearing his Campbell kilt for reunions and special occasions.

Gordon was also proud of his service to his country. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a sonar operator aboard the USS Steinnaker. His time in the Navy was an important part of his life, and he carried great pride in having served his country.

Gordon married his first wife, Joan, and together they were blessed with four children: Alan, Beth, Bryan, and Lynn. His family was an important part of his life, and he took great pride in being a father.

Following his military service, Gordon built a long career with General Motors, where he worked as a supervisor at the Livonia Bumper Plant. He was respected for his dedication, hard work, and commitment to those around him.

Gordon was a faithful servant of the Lord throughout his life. His faith was not simply something he spoke about—it was something he lived. He served his church and community with a humble and giving heart. At Webster United Church of Christ in Dexter, Michigan, Gordon served as a Deacon and as a Conference Delegate, faithfully giving his time and talents to the church he loved.

At Webster is where he met his forever wife Vesta Smith-Campbell of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gordon and Vesta married August 12,1989 for 37 years until his passing. He became a father to her three children, Michael, Ronda, and Sarah.

Gordon will be remembered for his strong faith, his service to his country, his dedication to his family, and his willingness to serve others. He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue through the generations.

He is survived by his children, Allan (Teresa) Campbell, Beth (Jim) Russo, Bryan (Julie) Campbell, and Lynn Campbell-Reyes; his sister, Susan Campbell of Collingwood, Canada; children by marriage; Mike (Michelle) Smith, Ronda (Shane) Smith, and Sarah Smith and his beloved grandchildren, Allison Reyes, Philip (Jennifer) Campbell, Andrea Reyes, Joey Campbell, Lauren Critchette-Kisie, Karyn (Alex) Armada, Vincent (Jovana) Russo, Theresa (Colin) Gierzynski, Joseph Russo, Matthew (Latiece) Russo, Shay Smith, Marina Smith, Jacob (Carolina) Smith, Cindi Smith, Scott Phinney, Mel (Thomas) Oldani, Mitch Bellinger, Brad Bellinger, Carley Bellinger and Jasmine Smith; great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Gordon is now home with the Lord, reunited with those who went before him, and resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.

Visitation will be held at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 4 until 7 pm. An 11 am funeral will take place, Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Webster United Church of Christ, 5484 Webster Church Rd, Dexter, MI 48130 with Pastor Charity Omartian officiating. Burial will follow in Webster United Church of Christ Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow interment in the basement of the church.
