Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 18, 1937, the eldest daughter of John Edward Glannan and Dorothy Marie Glannan (Diederich).
Mary lived a devout Christian life and was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Dexter, Michigan. She sang in the church choir and established the first annual St. Joseph Festival in 1979, a beloved tradition that continues to this day.
On February 27, 1956, Mary married Donald Ray Romine of Whitmore Lake, Michigan.
Together, they raised six children, first in Whitmore Lake and later in Dexter. After Donald's passing in 1988, Mary was blessed to share meaningful chapters of her life with two beloved companions, Gladwyn Emmons and Joseph Zabinsky, both of whom also preceded her in death.
Mary loved her family and friends fiercely. Her compassionate and generous spirit inspired a lifetime of service to others. Always a champion of those in need, she sponsored hundreds of refugees from across Asia, helping them find homes, providing food and clothing, and supporting their transition to life in the United States. This dedication led to her work in the 1980s as International Student Director at Washtenaw Community College. She loved her work and found it deeply rewarding to watch people who had arrived with virtually nothing thrive and rebuild their lives.
Later in life, Mary became the sole owner of Chelsea Tower Mart in Chelsea, Michigan, where she worked until her retirement.
Mary will be remembered for her unwavering faith, which she lovingly instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by her large family, sharing conversations, and hearing the sound of love and laughter fill a room. She welcomed everyone into her home with an open heart and embraced those she met as family. Her warmth, generous heart, and steadfast faith leave a lasting legacy in all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her five children: Donald (Kristie) Romine of Dexter, Janice Jones (Kevin Griffin) of Ann Arbor, Julie (Michael) McDonald of Pinckney, Michael Romine of Dexter, and Matthew (Krisden) Romine of Dexter; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Colleen Almas of Port Richey, Florida. She is also lovingly remembered by Tony Emmons, Helena (Erik) Zink and three step-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Romine; her daughter, Jennifer Romine; her brother, John Glannan; her sister, Patricia Miller; and her parents, John and Dorothy Glannan.
