Hello,
I was doing some purging and had ran across some cards and letters Matt had written to me.   He held a very special space in my heart and I’m sad to read of his passing.  

I met Matt in Cancun Mexico in 1992 or 93
We feel madly in love for a minute.   I visited Lansing on 2 occasions after meeting Matt in Cancun.   He was a wonderful host and tour guide.  
We lived in different states so far away and young love seemed impossible at the time.   

I’m so sorry for your loss and hope he passed peacefully.   He was such a kind man.

My heartfelt condolences to your family.  I worked with Matt at Amcor and he made every interaction enjoyable.  He was always so willing to help and pass along his knowledge.  For anyone who travelled with Matt, it was always a memorable adventure!  He will be missed.

I thought I would see you and talk to you again, but it was not meant to be.  I'll see you when I get there, Until then, my friend, I'll keep shuffling the deck and look for the four of diamonds. And I'll think of you whenever I cross a bridge. Everything's gonna be ok here.  Every little thing's gonna be alright. 


We at AccuFilm are deeply saddened by Matt’s passing - He was a joy to work and spend time with - Always kind, considerate, and professional - He will be sorely missed. 

I have fond memories of Matt and the Custack family, including good times on Howe Island, Canada. He was a kind, fun and generous soul- may he rest in peace. 

I have so many very fond memories of Matt that I will treasure forever.  He was always so kind and caring and one of the brightest people that I have ever known.  He never had a negative word to say about anyone and his smile was infectious!  Thank you for all the memories and rest in peace dear friend.  You will be missed.

I was greatly saddened by Matt's passing and my deepest sympathies go to Martha, Christopher and Madeline. 

Matt was a great guy who had the driest sense of humour, that he could bring to any situation. No matter how serious things got he could lighten the mood and find solutions that others could not see. 

I got to know him over a twenty year period as a supplier of PET to Amcor and was always impressed by his deep knowledge of the global market and his ability to know all the ins and outs of the industry. He had such great personal stories, most of which were hilarious and his humble nature belied the skill he brought to the job. 

Matt was first and foremost a family man and my happiest memories of him were when I was invited to spend time with him and his family. Whether we were watching Christopher playing one on one basketball with Marco Ghisolfi, going to musicals in New York, or Trick or Treating in Dexter, Matt was always happiest with his family and I felt privileged to be together with all of them.

With moving back to England and the pandemic I have lost touch with my Michigan friends and do hope that we can reconnect. Please stay strong guys and know that you will always have a friend in the UK.

Too many memories to share of the great times Matt and I had over 25 years.  I first met Matt when working for him at Amcor - he was a great mentor and always looked out for me, even after I left. I will always remember his positive attitude and loyalty to his inner circle of friends. I will miss you.  

I too was saddened to hear of Matt's passing.  I was introduced to him when his family moved to East Lansing.  I remember him as quiet and reserved but with a good sense of humor.   My condolences to Martha and his children.  My heart aches especially for his father, brothers, and sister during this difficult time.  Matt Sr, Tim, Jon, and Laura-you are in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

I am so saddened by Matt’s passing. A true friend for over 30 years! He was a great storyteller and adventurer. I have great memories of all our good times! My condolences to Martha, the kids, and his love ones. May his memories be eternal. 

We, at Mid-Ohio Warehouses in Heath, Ohio, are shocked to hear of Matt's passing. We have dealt with Matt, and his business partner George, for many years. He would come for visits, and was always a pleasure to talk to. We loved to listen to his many stories. RIP Matt. You will be missed.

Too many memories to share about Matt. 
He could brighten up a room in his own way and style, a bit of a grin in a schoolboy way. His love for Al Ez was epic and would often make a special trip or visit to share with the whole group. 

You will be missed, my friend!


I worked with Matt at Amcor and I remember him as an intelligent, original thinker with a big heart.  He had a magnetic personality that would draw people to him and was always helpful and thoughtful.  After speaking to Matt I always left with a smile on my face and this feeling that he lightened a weight on my shoulders! My condolences to his family and loved ones. 

I was so sad to hear about Matt's passing. I worked with Matt for many years and I have great memories.  He knew PET resin inside and out. He welcomed everyone with a smile and I truly enjoyed hearing his great stories. He loved his family dearly. He will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

We fondly remember Matt as a dear friend of our son and daughter, Steve and Melissa and their group in school.  As they passed into adulthood, they frequently met and continued a wonderful comraderie  in their homes and places serving liquid refreshments. Our condolences and prayers go to Matt's family and friends.  He will be missed.  The good times we had with him will be etched in our memories.

Matt took me under his wing when we were high school freshman.  Instant brotherhood. So many terrific memories. Mostly planning things. Matt was a schemer and I mean that in the best way. Always a glint in his eye and a quick warm smile. Matt always made us laugh and made everyone around him feel good. Farewell brother. 

Matt was a dear friend and the first person I connected with when starting at MSU as a 17 year old freshman from out of state.  He and I were closest friends for many years following that.  I will cherrish the memories.  Words cannot express my sadness and I offer my prayers and condolences to Martha, the kids and the entire family. We have a loving God and there is comfort knowing that he is with the Lord.
