OBITUARY

Antonio Alejandro Villarroel

August 26, 1973September 5, 2020

Antonio (Tony) Alejandro Villarroel of Bear River, N.S., born in Louvain, Belgium on August 26, 1973, passed away in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on September 5, 2020, shortly after his 47th birthday. Predeceased by his father, Mario Villarroel, he is survived by his mother, Nancy Robinson Villarroel of Bear River, and his brother Morris Villarroel, of Madrid, Spain, who will miss him sorely; as will Morris' wife, Erin and his niece and nephews in Spain (June, Andoni, Nico, Oliver and Liam). Aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family in Ontario, California, Kansas, Kentucky, Bolivia and Australia are mourning his loss, as are his many friends and neighbours.

Tony spent a good part of his childhood in beautiful Bear River where he was happiest playing sports with friends, especially tennis. He got his Masters in Science at McGill University and spent many years in Montreal and Toronto before returning home in 2018. He loved music, playing the piano and guitar and improvising, but most of all he had an insatiable love of learning, wanting to expand his knowledge. Funny, quick witted, sensitive, strong and determined, he was captivated by the perfect. From childhood to adulthood, he earnestly embarked on projects, from learning to dance the perfect “moonwalk”, to hitting the perfect forehand and, finally, to finding his own peace and enlightenment.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Queen St. in Digby. All are welcome. Covid guidelines and restrictions will apply. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church or the Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Branch. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. Share a memory or leave an online condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com

Dear Nancy & family,

Our most sincere condolences on the loss of your precious son & brother. We remember Tony very well from the years he spent at Oakdene School. We remember times our children spent in the tennis court with him and skating on the pond. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

As young children, Tony and I grew up together in Bear River, where we both attended Oakdene School. When I think back to my early childhood, many of my fondest memories include him. My time spent with Tony (and family) in those early years, had a significant impact on who I am today. Sadly, as we grew up and followed our studies in different locations – we lost touch with each other, and grew apart. I now wish I had worked harder to track him down over the years. Sincerest condolences to Nancy, Morris and family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I too was blessed to have gotten to know Tony for the all too short amount of time we had together. I pray the memory of the kindness and gentleness of your soul reminds people to love one another earnestly. You have been and will be missed my friend.

Justin, your neighbor.
