“How do you sum up 74 years in a paragraph?” Sonny was a man who lived life to the fullest, those who knew him were familiar with his sarcastic and sometimes offbeat style of humor, but also knew that he had a heart of gold. He loved to tease and play jokes. Throughout his life Sonny did many things, he captained a scallop boat with his brother Wayne for many years, he worked at the smoke house with his brother Bobby, he drove an ambulance, he worked at Harvest House as an addictions counsellor and Sonny even ran a second hand store out of his home that he called Alanna’s Place. Sonny was very involved in community events, his favorite was Scallop Days. During Scallop Days he volunteered, helped organize, and judged as well as participated in the scallop shucking contest. He also helped with Lobster Bash and Wharf Rat Rally, specifically the biker breakfast. He spent a lot of time at the local Tim Hortons, he had a group of people there that he referred to as his “Tim’s Family”. Family was very important to Sonny, especially his grandchildren, who he absolutely adored. He enjoyed going for long drives, playing crib and camping with his wife Alanna. Some of the family’s most cherished memories were made at his favorite place, “the camp”. Sonny had a special talent for telling stories, he knew just the right way to embellish them to get a laugh out of people and he loved to reminisce about old times. His family has wonderful memories of listening to him tell stories while wrapping presents at Christmastime, he had a special story he liked to tell on Christmas Eve about little Rosa and the dead cat. Christmas was Sonny’s favorite holiday, he kept his tree decorated year round. He liked watching sports, he was a fan of the Blue Jays, the Steelers and the Maple Leafs, and he was known to really enjoy watching Christmas movies on the W Network. Sonny liked to listen to country music on AVR and he enjoyed learning about history, especially WWI and WWII. He enjoyed reading, especially the bible and he was quite fond of the book “Roving Fisherman”. Sonny was a man of very strong faith, he was a long time member of the Wesleyan Church. Together with his friend Neil Pothier, they taught Sunday school at the Wesleyan. Sonny will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
