Charles Matheson Brooks
May 3, 1948 – July 11, 2021
Charles Matheson Brooks, aged 73, of Hassett, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 11, 2021. Born May 3, 1948, in Hassett he was the son of the late Charles and Annie (Brittain) Brooks. A man of simple, sincere faith, his earthly struggles are now over, and he is present with his LORD. He enjoyed working at Brookside Fur Farm until beginning his own ranch with his family years later. He loved his cattle and mowing hay in the summer almost as much he loved entertaining friends and family over tea and sweets. Charles will be remembered by his beloved family as a kind, caring, and generous man who was happiest when he was lending a helping hand and laughing with those around him. A family man, Charles was a wonderful husband, a dedicated father, and a proud and loving grandfather, the best anyone could have, who will be missed dearly. Though he was a man of few words, his life has left a permanent impact on those blessed to know him by his actions and character and his legacy will live on in the lives of his family.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Leota (Gavel) Brooks, daughter Muriel (Sandy Hankinson) Hassett; sons, Charles (Victoria), Hassett; Kenneth (Noelle), Easton; 7 grandchildren Leah (Anthony Bauer), Lake Echo; Scott Hankinson, Hassett; Kathryn Brooks, Hassett; Leanne (Dawson Hebb), Barton; Charles Branden Brooks, Hassett, (Ellene Comeau, Meteghan); Abby Brooks, Easton; and Ephram Brooks, Easton; great grandson baby Hebb expected in October; and sisters Nellie (David Russell), Centreville; and Barbara (Clarence Mullen), Hassett as well as many more beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Jayne’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday, July 16, 2021, with funeral service on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 2pm, all from Havelock Wesleyan Church.
We, the family, wish to thank our wonderful community for the many visits, kind words, and prayers over the last few months. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his honor.
