

Yorke, Denzel – 89, Bear River, passed away April 25, 2011 in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born May 4, 1921 in Bear River, Denzel was a son of the late Robert and Winnie (Alcorn) Yorke. Denzel was a firefighter in Cornwallis for 26 years and volunteered with the Bear River Fire Dept. for 25 years. Denzel was a Staff Sgt. in the army from 1939-1945. After leaving the army, he operated a taxi service in Bear River for 5 years, and worked with Nova Scotia Power for 5 years. Denzel was an elder and trustee in the Bear River United Church, and he was proud to have received his 50 year pin from the Legion, Bear River branch # 22. Besides his parents, Denzel was predeceased by his wife Madie (Waltherr); two infant daughters; brothers Alvin and Merton; son-in-law Reg Innes. Denzel is survived by his daughter Sandi Innes, Bear River; brother Carl and sister-in-law Marion, Kentville; sister-in-law Velda Yorke, Ontario; many nieces and nephews. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday, with Legion Service to be held at 8pm, in Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. (245-2525). Funeral 2pm Monday in Hillsburg United Church, Bear River. Wade Reppert officiating. Reception to follow the service at the Advent Christian Church, Lansdowne. Private family interment in Morganville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
