It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald “Donnie” Kennedy or better known as “Squid”. Donnie passed away at the young age of 80 on December 12, 2019 at Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Digby on June 19, 1939, he was a son of the late Norman Kennedy and Evelyn (VanTassel) Kennedy.
Donnie joined the Canadian Armed Forces right after school and began his boxing career there with the 1st Black Watch boxing team. He won the majority of his fights and took home many championship belts. His boxing career spanned over 9 years and it was those championships, that he was most proud of. He loved his two dogs Lucky, Sonny, golf, billiards and was a long time member of the Culloden Baptist Church. Donnie was a social ”butterfly” and had the most infectious smile.
Donnie is survived by his brother Eugene, niece Lorie Antony (Lorne), nephew Bruce Kennedy (Lisa), great nephews, Tyrone Kennedy-Bush (Anna) and Brandon Kryska. Besides Donnie's parents he was predeceased by best friend Sonny McCormick.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby. (902-245-2525) . A graveside service will be held 1pm Saturday, December 28, 2019 with Rev.
