Mrs. Doris Harris

July 12, 1928October 25, 2019

Doris Eileen Harris- age 91 of Bear River passed away peacefully on October 25th at the Digby General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Nettie (Ray) Bell. She found great comfort in her faith as she grew older and enjoyed her religious programs, daily bread and gospel music.

Doris was a staple in her community and her many hand written letters kept those living near and far feeling like they always belonged to Bear River. She enjoyed old movies, daily phone calls and visits with friends more than anything; insisting on clean hands for tea, lunch and freshly baked treats.

Doris spoke her mind and stood her ground but showed a heart of gold with her generosity and mischievous winks and smiles. Her guest books were well attended with signatures of love. She was like a mother to a special few.

Doris was predeceased by her husband, Allison Harris and her cherished daughter, Hope Wright Harris. Doris leaves behind a very dear circle of friends who laughed with her, comforted her and who will be lost without her.

A special thank you to those from the Digby General Hospital who cared and entertained her. There will be no funeral service, but a private internment for Doris and her Hope.

Doris was a very sweet lady, she won my heart by telling me stories whenever I stopped in her room. She always called me dear and i felt she appreciated my stopping in. She spoke her mind and I loved that about her. She made me laugh. She told me stories and loved to talk about her family. She was so proud , and also of her son that would visit her often. I knew she loved her life and her community. RIP my friend you will be missed sweet lady.

I looked forward to visiting with Doris anytime I was working (at the hospital) . Her sweet nature and sense of humor was so delightful,I enjoyed brightening her days with stories and visits from Pickles (my dog) , and took pleasure in doing little things to make her as comfortable as possible. while I was heartbroken about losing her, I know she is with her daughter and creator and for that i am truly thankful. Deepest condolences to the family and all who loved her. She will be truly missed and always thought of with fondness and love.

Remember Doris when Hope & I become friends in High School & was very welcomed into the Harris home so many years ago when I was sixteen years old. Doris was a very kind person who would do anything especially when you were sick. Doris loved to write notes & letters, it was her passion. I received one of her letters which I have treasured. May you rest in peace Doris . Now with your husband, Allie & daughter, Hope! God bless you all until we meet again!

Time and age change our lives, but Doris was able to live in the beloved home she cherished until recently. She was able to send appreciated letters to my mother, Eileen Wright, and to me. I remember how she loved to cook and bake, making delicious meals. Doris was always kind to Ian in so many ways, even letting him feed the seagulls at the store when he was a little fellow. She will be missed!

RIP Doris , Allie, and Hope. You were all wonderful people. Doris used to deliver the groceries for people and Allie was the meat cutter. People could run a bill per month and pay when cheques come in the end of month. Real super people. The three of you are together now. May you all RIP. Won't forget you all. Love from Pat,Judy,Peter, and Jessica.

I remember coming into the store on Saturday nights with Mom and Dad. You and Allie would be behind the counter. I also remember being fascinated by those big wheels of cheese. You will be sadly missed. RIP Doris. <3
