Ellery Haddon Merritt

MERRITT, Ellery Haddon — 75, of Mink Cove, Digby Co., passed away November 18th, 2012, at home, with his family by his side, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Born in Mink Cove, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Florence (Westcott) Merritt. Ellery was a loving husband to Pat for 53 years as well as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ellery lived in Mink Cove his entire life. He was a fisherman and enjoyed every aspect of it. He was always ready to talk fish stories with his friends. He loved gardening and his potatoes were the best, sharing them with his family and anyone who might happen by. In the fall of the year you would see him in his wood pile getting wood cut for winter. Ellery loved his family very much and always enjoyed having them all come home for special occasions and just a fun time. He always enjoyed learning of their accomplishments and was proud of each one of them. He is survived by his wife, Pat (Morehouse) Merritt; daughter, Andrea (John) Weir; sons, Brian (Kelly), Glenn (Deanna), Mark (Trish) and Ronald (Angie); grandchildren, Janelle (Adam) and Patrick Weir, Colton, Kennedy, Barry (Rianne), Brenton, Brody and Brayden; step grandchildren, Lyndi (Joel) and Logan, great-grandson, Gage; step great-grandson, Lucas; uncle, Allison Merritt; many nieces and nephews. He was a lover of animals and will be greatly missed by his cat, Trucker, who remained by his side until the end. Ellery was predeceased by his son, Barry; sister, Irene and brother in-law, Alan. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Tuesday, November 20th in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby (245-2525) also where the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday November 21st. Pastor Mark Cress will officiate with interment in Union Burial Ground, Lake Midway.
