At the age of 15, Ernie, along with 4 of his siblings went to live with Fred and Dora Amero in Barton. When Ernie was just 16, he began working for Stanley Comeau doing carpentry work. With a love and natural talent for building, he later started working for himself, building many beautiful homes and businesses in Digby and surrounding areas. He bought and renovated his own home in Brighton where he enjoyed tending his garden, watching the birds and the ocean. Ernie played darts at the Digby East Fish and Game where he was also a lifetime member and Past President of the Association for many years. He also loved to play guitar and could be found on Friday nights playing his favorite songs. Ernie will be dearly missed by all who knew him, including his cat Mia. Anyone who met Ernie instantly saw his kind heart. Ernie was well loved and will be remembered always as he was definitely one of a kind. There is now one more Angel in Heaven.
Ernie is lovingly remembered and survived by his common law wife Peggy Amon of 40 years, step-daughter Lisa Amon, New Minas; sister Carol (Harry) Winchester, Digby; brother John (Shirley) Marriott, Digby; sister Marion (Roger) Johnson, Lower Sackville; and many nieces and nephews including his niece and Goddaughter Michelle (Jason) Levings, South Range. Besides Ernie parents he was predeceased by sisters Jean, Shirley, Lorraine and brothers Ronald and Sonny.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, September 9, from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 15 Birch St. Digby. Father Raymond will officiate with burial in Madonna Cemetery, Marshalltown. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of the Villa Acadienne and Tideview Terrace for his care over the past few years. Ernie had a big heart for animals therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the TLC Animal Shelter or to the Digby Cancer Help Fund Association.
