

Haynes, William Frederick “Fred” – 74, Marshalltown, passed away September 21, 2011 in the Digby General Hospital. Born in Bear River and raised in Digby, Fred was the son of the late Boyd and Alice (Morine) Haynes. In his younger days Fred was a proud member of sea Cadets. He went on to become a fisherman. For several years he held the title of Champion “Old Timer’s” Scallop Days Scallop Shucking competition. Fred loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He always enjoyed hours with his friends mackerel fishing off the fisherman’s wharf in Digby. Fred is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandra; sisters Judy Mcknight, Baxter’s Harbor; Susan Dugas (Arnold), Yarmouth; Edna McLeod (David), Tantallon; Alice Mary Dugas (Paul), Digby; brothers Robert (Sheila), Middleton; Richard (Mabel), Greenwood and sister-in-law Diane Haynes, Mt. Pleasant. Fred was affectionately called Uncle Freddy by his several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Fred was predeceased by brother George; sisters Betty McRae; Marilyn Haynes and brother-in-law Sam McKnight. Special thanks to Dr. Beukes, nurses of 2nd Floor, Digby General Hospital, Pastor Donald Robertson and friend Geneva Newcomb.
