Fred Thibault was born April 4, 1926 in Doucetteville, Digby County, Nova Scotia to Angus and Lizzie (Thibodeau) Thibault on the farm, where he grew up surrounded by family. Farm life and family remained in his blood throughout his eighty eight years as he lived to show that a man need not make a big fuss to make a big impression. He worked for Warren Construction for 44 years, paving roads and making friendships throughout the maritimes before returning to the land that was such a big part of his life. Fred was always known as a man you could depend on when you needed a hand and a man who could make things work. He had a very creative mind, if he didn't have it, he made it. Long hours and hard work only seemed to make him stronger, a strength that carried him through to the very end. When the work was done, and sometimes in between, it was time for stories and singing, something Fred was well known for and was always looked forward to by his many friends and relatives. Fred's devotion to his family was great but may have been challenged by his devotion to the animals who depended on him for their well-being, from Bob his horse in the early days to Laddie the dog and his cattle who were treated like kids.
Fred was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings, brothers Elise and Gardie, sisters Emily, Alma, Cerita, Celena and Lorena as well as three of his own infant children; Brian, Jean, Paula and his granddaughter Angela. He is survived and remembered by his wife Flora (Mullen) Thibault, children Lorena (Eddie), Brenda (Donald) Terry (Sharon) and Jeannette (Eddie), his nephew Roger (Gail) who was like a son to him, his adopted brother Bud (Rita) and sister in law Geneva. Also missing Fred are his grandchildren; Derrick (Natasha), Christopher (Angela), Shawna (Scott), great-grandchildren Brandon, Kaitlyn, Violet, Matthew and many nieces and nephews.
Fred is resting at Jayne's Funeral Home in Digby since his death on New Year's Eve and will be cremated with visitation from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm on Monday, January 5th, 2015 and services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6th in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Queen Street, Digby with reception downstairs after the service. Burial will follow in Scared Heart Cemetery, Doucetteville a property that Fred generously donated to the Church earlier in life and now comes home to.
