June 14, 1929 – February 3, 2025
With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Geraldine Woolaver Hedberg, age 95, at her home in Digby, Nova Scotia. Born on June 14, 1929, in Little River, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Sadie (O’Neil) Denton.
Geraldine was a woman of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength. She welcomed everyone with open arms, forming deep and lasting friendships even into her 90s. She loved without reservation - her family, her community, her friends, and the simple joys of life. She was deeply honest, sincere, and steadfast, always making those around her feel valued, safe, and loved.
A determined and talented businesswoman, Geraldine successfully owned and operated not one but two businesses - Geraldine’s Hairstyling and a beloved gift shop, where she combined her skills with her passion for serving others. Whether through a fresh haircut or a carefully chosen gift, she always found ways to bring joy to those around her.
She was an active and dedicated member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 50 years, even serving as Noble Grand. The values of friendship, truth, and love were central to her life and reflected in the way she treated others. She was also a member of the Digby Baptist Church.
Outside of work and community, Geraldine had a passion for golf, curling, and cooking - activities that brought her joy and opportunities to share special moments with those she cared about.
In the later years of her life, she was blessed with the kind and loving care of Leslie, Terry, and Val, who not only supported her but became cherished companions, enriching her days with laughter, comfort, and friendship.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Mike Sayeau of North Carolina; stepchildren, Charles Hedberg, Jim Hedberg, Cindy Perkins, and Linnea Braham, all of Washington State; her sister, Marilyn Robertson of Digby; grandson, Michael Sayeau of the United Kingdom; and three great-granddaughters, Julia, Clara, and Tessa.
Geraldine was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Hedberg; her first husband, Maurice ‘Doug’ Woolaver; her beloved daughter, Julia Sayeau; infant daughter, Kimberley; her sister, Christine; and brothers, Roy, Allison, and Merrill.
Her kindness, love, and unwavering integrity will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VON in Geraldine’s memory.
The funeral service will be April 12, 2025 at 11am from Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby, Rev. Donald Robertson officiating.
