Graham Leroy Saunders passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at Elk Court in Brookfield, Nova Scotia on December 29, 2010. Graham was born on April 24, 1937 in Digby and was the only and beloved son of Althea and the late Lindstol Saunders.
He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force when he was seventeen and became a paramedic. He later left the military in order to attend school in Toronto in order to obtain his diploma in horology. It was in Toronto that he met his wife, Jacqueline Saunders after which he returned to his hometown and took over his father’s jewellery store.
Graham was an entrepreneur at heart and over the years, he was involved in a number of successful business adventures, such as the development and management of Digby’s first waste management system , real estate, apartment rentals, as well as indoor and outdoor theatres. He was also president of the Kiwanis Club in Digby for two terms and acted as Justice of the Peace in the early 1970’s.
Graham however, will be remembered most for his kind heart, great sense of humour, fairness and strong sense of family loyalty and love. He is survived by his mother Althea and wife Jacqueline; his two sons Mark and Scott; two daughters Cheryl Longmire and Stacie; two grandsons Graham and Colby and two granddaughters Mary-Ellen and Fallon as well as a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. We will all cherish his memory and hold him close to our hearts while we raise a toast to celebrate the life of our gentle and loving son, husband, and father.
