Pete had many friends as was obvious during his lengthy stays in both Kentville and Digby hospitals.
Pete loved to sing and so a trio was formed consisting of Bonnie , Linda and himself with Cairine accompanying on the piano. Not only was the trio formed but a very long loving friendship ensued as well. The trio's last get together was on Christmas Eve (2018) at the Digby Baptist Church with Pete belting it out as though he knew it would be his last concert. What a powerful voice he had.
Pete started his working life in the woods with his father Oakley at the age of twelve and was later employed at the stave mill in Bear River and then he moved on to a career at C.F.B. Cornwallis as a Firefighter where he was employed for 32 years.
Uncle Pete was predeceased by his parents Oakley Banks and Alma (Wentzel), wife Irene (Gates), brothers in law Thomas Gates, Lewis Gates and Phillip Gates, sister in law Annie Gates (Chisholm).
He is survived by nephews Lynn (Catherine) , Richard ,Larry, Sean (Rene), Robert (Terri) and Murray (Jacqueline) Gates along with nieces Cathy Gordon (David) and Janine Sullivan(Gates) and Sister in Law Phyllis Gates.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the individuals who visited our Uncle Pete on a regular basis and to the doctors ,nursing staff , cleaners, and food delivery staff who all showed compassion as he touched their hearts as well. He was loved by all.
