

Helen Choi Ha Wong -Age of 80, passed away on Monday, June 29th, 2015 in the Digby General Hospital. She was the daughter of father Cheung Dik Lo and mother Lau Shuen Kan. Helen was born on February 5th, 1935 in Aceh, Indonesia, and lived in Canton, China and Hong Kong before moving to Digby in 1963 to join with husband Soon who immigrated to Canada in 1961 to work in his father's restaurant, the Cornwallis Cafe. In the earlier years in Canada, Helen focused on raising her four children. Later on, she worked as a cook at the family restaurant, the House of Wong (formerly Cornwallis Cafe). Her hobbies included golf, reading, gardening, puzzles and knitting. She also enjoyed cooking and hosting family meals. She made the most of her final months by spending much time with her family and engaging in simple pleasures such as watching TV, reading and journal writing. Her presence in our lives is sadly missed. Helen is survived by mother, Lau Shuen Kan; brothers, Cheung Kwok Hung, Cheung Kwok Kung, son David Wong, daughters Maria Wong (Eric Bell), Julie Wong (Sean Fredericks), grandchildren Pamela (Gavin) Shoebottom, Madeline Wong (Chris Adamson), Nathan Wong, Vanessa Bell (Angus Cleveland), Kyle Bell, Connor Fredericks, great-grandchildren Breanna Wong, Jack Shoebottom, nieces and nephews Stephen Yee, Bessie Chiu, June Hum, Bruce Yee. Helen was predeceased by father, Cheung Dik Lo; sister, Cheung Mei Yung; husband, Soon Wong; son, Peter Wong.Visitation 7-9pm, Thursday, July 2nd at Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby also where a celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Friday, July 3rd.
