He was a boy scout with 1st Dorchester Troup and a cadet. Jim’s love of travel allowed him to go around the world several times in his life. He was a home builder for many years in B.C. He enjoyed BC Lions games. He returned to Nova Scotia in the late 90’s where he and his family ran a Color Your World in Digby. Jim’s love affair with motor vehicles started as a young man and continued throughout his life. His 1955 Mercury panel van was an icon in front of his house in Rossway for years. He was in a bad work accident where his injuries didn’t allow him to finish the repairs. His friend Mark Stockwell, now proud owner who is restoring it and has named it “Jim Dandy”. Jim had been to see the van and its progress, it made him happy to see it loved again.
He will be missed by his partner Joanne Mattinson; Teresa and Scott Granger who helped him for years and loved him. Jim is survived by sons Kent (Lacey) Baker, Digby NS, Ross Baker (Meredith Conrad) , Lower Sackville NS, granddaughter Veronica Marlene, Digby NS, grandson Eli James, Digby NS. Stepdaughter, Tara Jones and children Simon and Dillon, BC, stepson Erin (Anastasia) Jones NS. Best friends Scott and Kathy Milne NS and friend Todd Carter BC. Several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thank you to the staff of Digby General Hospital and Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their compassion and care. Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to Digby General Hospital or Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
