

John Brian Sharples. Age 86, of Halifax passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown on November 23, 2021. Born in Wolverhampton, England, he was the second son of James and Freda (Chriss) Sharples.
He immigrated to Canada through Pier 21 in 1959. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, he taught Hematology at N.S.I.T., was a Past President of both the Provincial and National Society of Laboratory Technologists and at the time of his retirement, he was the Technical Director of Laboratories at the Old Halifax Infirmary. A soccer referee in England, he continued with that sport in Halifax as a youth soccer coach and was the Past President of the Dutch Village Wanderers Soccer Club. He was involved in amateur theatre as an actor and Past President of the Theatre Arts Guild of Halifax. A longtime member of St. James Anglican Church Armdale where he served as President of the Social Club and Chairman of the Parish Council. John will be remembered as an honest, reliable and fiercely independent man.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura (Kinney); son Selwyn, Vancouver, daughter Emily (Paul) Carman, Digby County; daughter, Rosemary (Mark) Putnam, South Carolina and his beloved grandchildren, Logan, Thian and Meadow Carman, John-Mark, Cedar, Jesse, Shepard and Zoe Putnam; sister, Susan (Mike) Rodgers and nephews, Richard and Nicholas Sharples of England. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, James and sister, Frances, all of England.
