Dear Sharples and extended families, my condolences for your loss. John was a sentinel figure to me as a kid. Looking down from his height with a mischievous eye, with direct remarks and his classic accent, always ready to nod and share a kind word from the yard or on his walks with the dog. I remember playing in the yard with the bigger kids and having baby charge me and topple me over. I was fine and wanted to show him how tough I was. He sure loved that dog. We were so lucky to be his neighbours for decades. I will miss him dearly. 

Loss can hit people in different ways and at different times.   As an aging child clinging long to the nest, Mr. Sharples counselled me not to worry about my parents and get out and on with my life.  I remember John, his voice booming through the house to keep his son in check as we played for endless hours, or shouting accross the street to tease with my Dad about their work and politics.

Dear Emily ,Laura and family,  Our deepest sympathy. He was a very kind person. Condolences to all the family .  Blessings.

         When our family had been without power nine and a half days after Hurricane Juan hit, my family was back in school or at work. The house was getting cold. So I called Mr. Sharples, and he told me what to do at the circuit breaker panel to turn the heat back on. That worked. This is one example of Mr. Sharples being a good neighbor.

Laura: Very sad to hear about your great loss.  Losing our oved ones in death is so very difficult.  Sad to say I never met your husband but well remember our young years when we attended the little school in Brighton.  Some days I walk down Memory Lane and think of your mother and Doris Thomas singing.  They harmonized so well together.   A lot of changes for us since all those years ago.
Please know I care deeply for you and your families loss.

Laura we send our love and prayers at this sad time.   We so enjoyed John over the years at the Social Club and at church events.  I particularly enjoyed working with John on the executive of the Social Club.  He always brought joy to anything we were doing, even if it was just cooking in the kitchen or paper work.  Always enjoyed our chats.  His family meant a lot to him as he spoke so fond of the grandchildren.  We are sure he will be missed.

I was so sorry to learn of John's passing,  My sincere condolences to you and your family.  I always liked John.  I have memories of his walkabout at the Annual MS Party at St James Anglican which he did for years.  He loved doing that and everyone loved him in that role.  This is just one of the many wonderful contributions John made to this world.  He will be dearly missed by many, including me.  May God extend His loving comfort to you Laura and your whole family.

I always enjoyed our times of fellowship at St. James with John especially as our children were involved in the activities offered. John gave with a passion and enthusiasm which was contagious.

I worked with John at the Old Halifax Infirmary as well. It was a great place to work because of people like John - compassionate and competent. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest In Peace John. 

Sending my  heartfelt sympathy to Laura  and extended  family on the passing  of John. My memories extend  back to 1 959 , first as an  instructor  at the Path Lab , then as my "Boss" off and on until  his retirement.  Social occasions with former hematology staff continued     until recently .

I worked at the Halifax Infirmary when John was manager of Hematology. What a lovely man! So kind and gentle. My condolences to his family. RIP John!

My condolences to the family of a wonderful man. John was my boss many years ago in the lab during the amalgamation. He was a fair and kind man to work with and I will remember him fondly. 

I remember John and Laura on their wedding day in Digby. John was a grand man in more ways than one. Sandra and I  worked together,  ( Microbiology), with him at the 'Old Halifax Infirmary'. He was always cheerful and ready to party, as either the host or participant. I attended many of his plays at the Pond Playhouse, and enjoyed them all. Good times, so many years ago. We are so sad to hear of John's passing. What a wonderful gentleman to interact with at church. He was always so much fun at yard sales , men's group and  Christmas parties . Marsha always had a special hug for John.
