Banks, Laird Ambrose, 86, of Smiths Cove, Digby county passed away Friday, March 29 peacefully in Digby General Hospital. Born in Rossway on January 13, 1938 he was the son of Thurston and Violet Lewis Banks.
He left home at 17 to go to Toronto, then Alberta, and returned to Toronto where he met and married his beloved wife, Carol. He was employed at De Havilland Aircraft and helped build the first Twin Otter aircraft now on display in Ottawa. He moved back to Nova Scotia in 1970 and was employed by Annapolis Fuels while he built, owned and operated Fundy Spray Campground for 34 years along with his wife and son,
Laird enjoyed hockey, both as a coach for minor hockey and a goalie for several teams. He enjoyed old timers hockey playing for the Valley Applepickers. He enjoyed curling as well. After retirement he and Carol spent winter months in Florida with family and friends.
Laird is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol (Cornett) Banks; his daughter-in-law Valerie; much loved grandson, Richard and his beloved great granddaughters, Claire and Chloe - his pride and joy. He was predeceased by his parents and son Michael.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday, April 3 from 6-8 pm at Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. Cremation to follow. No service at this time. Special thanks to Dr. J. Black, Dr. Dentremont, staff at Yarmouth and Digby hospitals.
