LaReta Marjorie Gidney

Born on June 24, 1931 (89), in Centreville, Digby Co., LaReta was the daughter of the late Loran and Daisy (Swift) Shaw.

She was funny, strong willed, loved to laugh and liked entertaining people. She was full of energy and enjoyed cooking, especially baking. You could find her in the kitchen at 5 am with the TV and radio blasting, preparing to bake bread and chatting to herself the entire time. She was an incredible homemaker, lived for her family, and attended to them constantly. LaReta was fond of country music and was well aware how music can change the mood of a room.

The Gidney family is very grateful to Dr. Buchholz and the entire staff at the Annapolis Nursing Home for all the care, attention, respect and love given to LaReta over the past six years of her residence there. You are all angels.

LaReta is survived by her daughter Dorothy (Ron), Digby; her son Bruce (Shelley), Hillgrove; her son Barry (Lorraine), Ontario; daughter-in-law Marie, Mink Cove; and her 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred “Junior”, son Loran, brothers Donald Shaw and Eugene Shaw, and her sister Dorothy Raymond. Donations in LaReta's memory can be made to a charity of choice.
