Les passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2020 at Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Bear River on March 10, 1935; he was the son of the late Archie and Hilda (Rice) Milbury.
Les married Lynn Cooper August 28, 1971. Together they created a happy home at Porcupine Corner for their two daughters Carrie (Kevin Read) and Charlene (Shawn Harding). Les loved being a Grandpa and was so proud of his four grandchildren: Kathryn “Kate” Read, Eliphalet “Eli” Read, Maxwell “Max” (Nicole) Harding and Maia Rose Harding.
Les held many jobs including several years at Trynor Construction laying buried communication cable across the province. Les was an entrepreneur at heart. In the 1980’s, he owned a heavy equipment and excavating company and from 91-98; Les & Lynn owned and operated Comfort Lodge Home for Seniors.
Les had big hands for working and an even bigger heart for his family and community. Les was a volunteer firefighter in the Bear River Fire Department and a volunteer for the Digby County Exhibition. Les took pride in cooking the turkeys for many a Fire Department and Exhibition dinner. He was also a member of the Digby Water Commission, a volunteer at the Digby Food Bank and the champion of the Bear River Lighthouse Society for more than two decades. Les had a passion for politics and spent many years participating in the Digby Liberal Association.
To Les, his family were his friends. No one can tell a story like a Milbury and we will always remember the many times spent in the kitchen listening to them. He is survived by sisters, Ruby (Boyd) Rice, Hazel (Les) Inglis, Edith (Ralph) Jefferson, Pat (Edwin) Gehue, and Alda (Bob) Marshall, and brothers, David (Lorena) Milbury, Laurie (Linda) Milbury, Donald (Francis) Milbury, and Glendon (Beverly) Milbury. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Les is predeceased by sisters, Roberta Milbury, Marion “Mim” (John) Doucette; Merle (Don) Selig, and Carol (Edward) Strand, and brothers, Fred (Leona) Milbury and Richard (Marion) Milbury.
Throughout their lives Les and Lynn also cherished the close friendship of his niece, Pearl Glass and her husband Ivan. They created lasting memories through their travels and time spent together.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Tideview Terrace who cared for Les like family in these last three years.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends on Saturday September 5, 2020 at 2:00pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, Digby with Pastor Mark Cress officiating.
