

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, Lina, at age 67, who passed away peacefully on July 19, in Digby General Hospital, with family by her side.Born in Digby on February 22, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Bruce and Margaret (Porter) Baxter. Surviving are brother Michael B. Baxter (Donna); sister Dayle Baxter –Ashby (Blair); nephews Timothy Baxter and Joey Baxter (Tammy), and several cousins.Lina was educated at Acadia University, Teacher College, and Mt. St. Vincent University. She held various clerical and human resource positions in the N.S. government, including Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Education, where she derived satisfaction from providing service and becoming knowledgeable about the work of the government. Her employers referred to her as being conscientious, reliable, diligent, dedicated, and a person of integrity. Lina retired to Cornwallis, and following a stroke, moved to Digby which she always considered to be home. Her primary interests focused on her apartment, her cat, “Sweetie”, family, friends and church. In her youth, Lina enjoyed writing poetry and playing the piano. She was liked by many who enjoyed her serious humor and admired her ability to persevere despite her health challenges. She enjoyed close, caring family relationships. Her family would like to thank the staff of Home Care N.S.; VON; Dr. Bander and Lee Walsh; Dr. Black, Palliative Care Nurse - Melanie Rodgers; Social Worker – Heather Thibodeau; Recreational Director – Charlotte Sabean - who co-ordinated volunteers Gene and Tim; 2nd floor Medical and Restorative Care Staff , Dietary and Janitorial Staff of the Digby General Hospital; Companions – Eleanor VanTassell, and Belinda Addington, Family, Digby Baptist Church and friends.Visitation will be 7-9pm Monday, July 25 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby. Funeral service will be 2pm Tuesday, July 26, from the Digby Baptist Church. Rev. Jeff White will officiate. Cremation has occurred. Interment will be at a later date in Hillgrove Baptist Cemetery.
