

Hench-Gavel, Mary Edna, 78, Brighton, Digby Co. passed away December 11, 2011 in the Digby General Hospital. Born on April 28,1933 she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Harriet (Bunker) Sullivan of Brighton. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Marshalltown. She worked as a housekeeper in the local area for many years. She raised two daughters and spent time with her granddaughter. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Women’s Bowling League in Digby. Mary enjoyed clogging in her younger years. She learned to play the audio harp at age 65. She enjoyed music and especially liked fiddle music. She loved her family and friends and always had a smile and a word of greeting. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Surviving are her husband Chester M. Gavel, Brighton; daughters Mary Rose Jewer (Walter), Waldec, Annapolis Co. Marsha Ann Lewis (Terry), North Range, Digby Co; sister Florence Brittain, Havelock, Digby Co. and granddaughter Amanda D. Jewer, Halifax, several step -daughters and step-sons, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Carl P. LeBlanc, her second husband Frederick J. Hench and granddaughter Crista Ann Lewis, brothers Delbert Sullivan, Chester Sullivan, sisters Bessie (Betty) MacKinnon (Charles) and Nellie Muron. Visitation 2-4 & 7-9 pm with prayers at 8pm Wednesday all from Jayne’s Funeral Home 7 Birch St. Digby. (245-2525). Funeral Service wil be 2pm Thursday from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Digby. Father Keith Billard presiding. Interment in Madonna Cemetery, Marshalltown. Donations in memory can be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
