Deep family connections and passion for Nova Scotia inspired the couple to purchase a home here in the late 50’s followed with a permanent move in the mid 70’s. For many years after, Muriel worked tirelessly and happily on this newly-created family farm; tending animals, caring for the gardens, and preserving an endless supply of fresh fruit and vegetables. Her passions extended well beyond the day to day activities of the family home. She travelled the world through her love of reading; expressed her creativity through painting and the arts; and gave the gift of music by playing the organ and piano.
Muriel was much loved by her five children and their spouses: Carol (Paul) Lanoue of West Bridgewater, MA; John (deceased) and Patricia Levings of Brighton, NS; Wendie Levings of Whitesboro, TX; Diane Levings and Joan Dewling of Brighton, NS; and Robert Levings and Marie Chisholm of Halifax, NS. In addition, Muriel was the proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She led a rich life with love for her “Thomas“ family including her cousin/sister Claire Kirby and family of Orleans, MA. Muriel’s patient, loving and accepting manner endeared her to many in the local community and beyond. Her friendship network was both wide and deep, and she made every effort to stay in touch with those she knew as far back as her childhood. She touched the lives of many through her work at Tideview Terrace Home for Special Care in Digby and was actively involved in her local church.

Gone from us that smiling face,
The cheerful pleasant ways,
The heart that won so many friends,
In bygone, happy days.
A life made beautiful by kindly deeds,
A helping hand for others’ needs.
To a beautiful life, Comes a happy end,
She died as she lived, Everyone’s friend.
