OBITUARY

Muriel Levings

December 11, 1927June 28, 2019

Muriel Levings, 91, passed away peacefully on June 28 at her home in Brighton, Nova Scotia. Born and raised in Rockland, MA, Muriel was married for 66 years to the late Wendell Levings.

Deep family connections and passion for Nova Scotia inspired the couple to purchase a home here in the late 50’s followed with a permanent move in the mid 70’s. For many years after, Muriel worked tirelessly and happily on this newly-created family farm; tending animals, caring for the gardens, and preserving an endless supply of fresh fruit and vegetables. Her passions extended well beyond the day to day activities of the family home. She travelled the world through her love of reading; expressed her creativity through painting and the arts; and gave the gift of music by playing the organ and piano.

Muriel was much loved by her five children and their spouses: Carol (Paul) Lanoue of West Bridgewater, MA; John (deceased) and Patricia Levings of Brighton, NS; Wendie Levings of Whitesboro, TX; Diane Levings and Joan Dewling of Brighton, NS; and Robert Levings and Marie Chisholm of Halifax, NS. In addition, Muriel was the proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She led a rich life with love for her “Thomas“ family including her cousin/sister Claire Kirby and family of Orleans, MA. Muriel’s patient, loving and accepting manner endeared her to many in the local community and beyond. Her friendship network was both wide and deep, and she made every effort to stay in touch with those she knew as far back as her childhood. She touched the lives of many through her work at Tideview Terrace Home for Special Care in Digby and was actively involved in her local church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. Share a memory or an online condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com

Muriel has been an important part of my life. In particular I have fond memories as a teenager in the summers. She always made her home a welcoming and fun place for us teenagers who were around constantly. Muriel has been to the very end a fun, gracious and kind person. She had a strong intellect and was current and knowledgeable about what is going on in the world throughout her whole life. We enjoyed and looked forward to her daily Facebook posts that brought her great sense of humour into our lives.

Beautiful Muriel and her wonderful husband Wendall were life long friends of my parents Jeanne and Joe Holland both in Rockland and when my parents bought a lovely home in Nova Scotia close to them. Muriel was full of warmth and class and her beautiful smile was always so welcoming. My deepest sympathy to all of the Levings family.

As a former member of the Book Club to which Muriel belonged, I have fond memories of the many discussions we shared as a group and also of the happy occasions when Muriel graciously hosted us at her delightful home in Brighton. She was a kind and gracious friend.

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful, wonderful, Loving lady...my summer mother. I have always been honoured she called me her summer son. What memories she is responsible for, of great friendships, great times, and even greater love. She taught us all well.

I would like to express heart felt sympathy to Robert and the rest of the Levings family. Muriel was an amazing woman. She was kind, warm and welcoming. It was always interesting to spend time with her. She shared her love of reading with me and I kept a journal of books I read it because she did. I always felt welcomed in her home and she was always interested in the people around her. I got to spend a wonderful afternoon with her and my mother just two years ago. I will miss your mom. Thinking of you all and hoping your grief will be softened by the many memories you have of your beautiful mother.

Wendell and Muriel were wonderful people. I remember going to their home as a child and always made welcome. Muriel always had some cookies and milk. I would stop in from time to time and visit them. Muriel was always happy to see me and She will be missed by many...RIP. Her grace and love will live on in my memories .

I’ve known Muriel my whole life and consider her family. I am so sad to hear of her passing but am happy it was so peaceful. She was so loving and fun and some of my fondest memories were spent at her and Wendell’s house and beach swimming and having clam bakes.
Her sense of humour will always be remembered in her skits with Marilyn and on Facebook. Sending love and hugs to all xoxo

So sad for all the family to learn of your moms' passing. Wonderful childhood memories ease the pain of such sadness. Muriel was a person of great patience who put up with all us teenagers (always with a smile and a firm "Now Girls!!" when necessary. Truly loved by so many.
