

Melanson, Ronald “Ronnie” Richard- Age 78 of Brighton passed away November 4th, 2016 in Digby General Hospital. Born in Weymouth he was the son of the late William and Ruth (Ellis) Melanson. Ronnie enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening in his greenhouse and staying at the camp. He loved nature and being outdoors. Ronnie was a lover of country and bluegrass music and he enjoyed the weekly jam sessions. He played many instruments but loved his Gibson. Over the years, Ronnie worked in the wood, in a fishplant and in 1962 he began his career as an auto mechanic; opening “Ron Melanson’s Auto Repair” until his retirement in 2003. He truly loved his family. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Hall) Melanson; daughters, Debra (Donald) Bondy, Digby; Darlene (Michael) Oliver, Brighton; Judy Melanson, Digby; son, Richard (Taryn) Melanson, Acaciaville; grandchildren, Sasha Melanson, Colin Bondy, Alisha Brydon, Fallon Oliver, Megan Oliver, Nicole Bondy-Lockerbie, Evan Melanson-Smith, Brandon Melanson, Brandon Melanson-Smith; sister, Margaret Foote, Halifax; nieces, Ruth Graham, Pat Powell, Theresa Miller and Marilyn Stevenson. Besides his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by son, Ronald Jr; granddaughter, Jasmine Melanson-Smith; sister, Dorothy Sproule. Visitation 7-9, Sunday November 6th from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby also where the funeral service will be at 1pm, Monday, November 7th. Mr. Lou Outhouse and Mr. Marc Phillips will preside with interment in Barton Cemetery. Thank you to all blood donors and Canadian Blood Services for allowing Ronnie an extra year with his family.
