Sandra Louise Innes

Born September 20, 1944 in Halifax, Sandi was the daughter of the late Denzel and Madie (Waltherr) Yorke. Sandi went to work at HMCS, later CFB, Cornwallis at age 18 as the Commandant’s Secretary of the Canadian Forces Recruit School. She worked there until the base closed in 1994, having completed 31 ½ years. The following week she was hired as an administrative assistant for the office of the President of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, and worked there for 10 ½ years. She was a member of the Bear River Hillsburgh United Church all her life.

Sandi loved working in her flower gardens and taking care of her home and cottage at Lake LaMerchant that her Dad and Mom had built. She liked playing badminton, swimming, skating, walking, doing needlework, knitting and crocheting. Spending summers at the cottage was a very special time being with the “lake family”.

Sandi loved her family and friends. Being from a small family, she was truly blessed to have so many wonderful friends in her life-her extended family. She also loved her pets dearly and they gave her love and comfort during their lifetime, the “children” she never had.

Besides her parents, Sandi was predeceased by her beloved husband, Reg, two infant sisters, and grandparents, Robert and Winnie Yorke. Sandi is survived by Uncle and Aunt, Carl and Marion Yorke, Kentville; Aunt VeldaYorke, Ontario; Aunt Millie Joudrey, Summerville; several cousins; stepson, Michael and his wife Terri and grandsons Tyler and Joel.

Visitation 7-9pm on Sunday November 11 at Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby (245-2525). Also where Sandi’s “Celebration of Life” service will take place at 2pm, on Monday November 12. Nathan Waterman officiating. Private family interment in Morganville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Parkinson’s society of Nova Scotia, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, TLC Animal Shelter in Digby, or charity of choice.
