Sherry Ann Raymond

January 21, 1957December 29, 2019

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sherry Ann Raymond on December 29, 2019, at Valley Regional Hospital. Sherry was born January 21, 1957 to Victor and Elizabeth (Collins) Raymond of Centreville, Digby County.

For most of her life, she resided in special care homes, such as New Vision Special Care Home in Berwick, and more recently, at the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre. The KRRC was home to Sherry and the staff and clients were her family. She enjoyed playing cards, singing, dancing, socializing with staff and fellow clients, and especially loved sitting down to a nice hot cup of tea. Sherry collected many things, but jewellery was one of her favourites, as she loved wearing anything that was shiny and sparkly. She absolutely loved Christmas and was so pleased to have received a visit on Christmas Eve day from her special nephew, Jason. Sherry also looked forward to celebrating her birthday and had spoke often about her memories of celebrating with her Mom, as they shared the same birthday.

Sherry was a very thankful and kind soul. She would often remind her care staff of how much she adored them and how grateful and appreciative she was of the care and love they provided to her. Sherry trusted them and would often look to them for reassurance about her appearance and what she was wearing on that particular day. She always wanted to look her best and the staff made sure that she always did. As Sherry’s family, we took great comfort in knowing that she was loved and well cared for right up until she took her last breath. Sherry was so blessed to have the KRRC staff stay with her for the last few days of her life. Knowing that there was a comforting and familiar face by her side, was a blessing and a gift of peace for Sherry, as well as for her family. We will never forget the unconditional love and support that the care staff gave to her.

Survived by her mother, Elizabeth Raymond; brother, Lyndon Raymond; niece, Amy (Craig)Theriault; nephews, Jason (Nancy) Raymond, Matthew (Tracy) Raymond; great nieces and nephews, Hannah, Aleeyah, Griffin and Haydon. She was predeceased by her father, Victor Raymond.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Valley Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Mulherin, who made quality end of life care a priority for Sherry. Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. There will be no services as per family request. Please make donations in Sherry’s memory payable to: The Apple Tree Foundation by mailing cheque or money orders to, 1349 County Home Rd, PO Box 128 Waterville, NS B0P 1V0. My sincerest condolences to all of Sherry's family and caregivers. I have many memories of Sherry coming to visit her grandparents (Mr & Mrs Collins) in Little River. Also going to her home in Centreville for sleepovers and playing in the hills and big rocks out back of her house. RIP Sherry.

Elizabeth, Lyndon and family,
We were saddened to hear of Sherry Ann's passing. Although apart for years, cousins will always be cousins and family. We miss seeing you folks, as we did when we were much younger, but do cherish the memories. Sending our love.

Sherry was my cousin and we were the same age so we hung out together when we visited each others homes. As a child I always loved visiting the Raymond's in Digby Neck and playing in hills behind their house. It was especially nice going fishing with Sherry's father Victor.

It was always nice when the Raymond family would come and visit us at our home in Stellarton. They always livened things up.

I have not seen Sherry in over 40 years as I moved to the West Coast after High School but have thought of them many times over the years and most recently over the Christmas Season I reminisced. They were fun memories growing up.

I am so glad to hear that Sherry was so well looked after and am sending hugs to the rest of the family and her caregivers.

Im so sorry to hear of Sherry’s passing. I have many fond memories of Sherry when we were kids growing up. Special memories were at my Aunt Dorothy Raymond’s home attending her daughter’s (Darlene) birthday parties. We always had dancing contests the Twist was our favourite dance and if I remember right Sherry always won. Thinking of all the family at this sad and difficult time.
