Born on December 7, 1926 in Weymouth Falls, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (Crawford) Smith. She was a member of the Acaciaville Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Acaciaville Branch NS Women’s Institute, the only African Canadian Branch in Canada. She was a stay at home Mom and enjoyed going to Church every Sunday. She loved going to bingo, crocheting, making plastic canvas crafts and sitting home listening to George Jones.
She will be fondly remembered by her sons, Keith (Marion), Yarmouth; Andrew, Halifax; Clarence (Ruthie), Saint John, NB; David (Celia), Digby; Roland (Florence), Saint John, NB; Lloyd (Cheryl), Pemberton, BC; Terry, Saint John, NB; sisters Lois Smith and Barbara Brown, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Harry Lloyd Miller “Thump”; children, Harry, Rose, Eugene, Neil, a son and daughter in infancy; brothers, Everett Smith “Buss”, Ern Smith, Dirl Smith; sisters, Dora Middleton, Alberta Smith and Maxine Jarvis.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby. (902-245-2525). Funeral service at 2pm on Friday April 6, 2018 from Acaciaville Baptist Church with Pastor Theresa Character presiding. Reception to follow at the Digby Legion. Donations in memory can be made to the Acaciaville Baptist Church or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
