Wayne was born on July 26, 1943 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Joseph and Christy Auby. Wayne spent his youth in the Clementsport, NS area, until he joined the Canadian Armed Forces in October 1961 as a Royal Canadian Engineer. Wayne trained in Chilliwack, BC and then was posted to CFB Petawawa, ON, during which time he was deployed to Egypt. While posted to Petawawa, Wayne met the love of his life, Diana Lee Ledgerwood; they were married July 30, 1966. Wayne was honorably discharged from the military in July 1971, after which Wayne and Diana moved to Hamilton, ON, where he worked for Defasco Steel, employed as an equipment operator. While in Hamilton they started a family, and had two daughters, Carrie and Amy. In 1988, Wayne moved his family from ON to return to his roots in Nova Scotia, buying property in Deep Brook, where he farmed and worked with his brother Barry’s refrigeration repair business. After farming, Wayne worked as a Commissionaire at CFB Cornwallis with the Military Police Detachment, Cornwallis Park Development Agency and then with Lester B. Pearson Peacekeeping Training centre for approximately ten years before retiring. After Diana passed in January 2018, Wayne remained in Deep Brook, with their dog “Zoey” until his passing, June 21, 2019.
Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, four grandchildren and family. Carrie (Darren) McInnis of Dartmouth, NS and family; sons Darrian and Brady, and daughter Emily; Amy (Ken) Ross of Regina, SK and family; and daughter Madison, brother Danny (Nancy) Auby of Deep Brook, NS; son Mitch and daughter Cassandra; sister-in-Law Darlene Auby of Digby, NS; daughter Christina. sister-in-law Jan (Mike) Ray of Kingston, ON; son Jeff and daughter Cindy; brother-in-law Bill (Terry) Ledgerwood of Hamilton; sons DJ and Alex, and daughter Corrie. Wayne was predeceased by his wife Diana; his parents Joseph George and Christy Auby and brother, Barry Auby. Visit with the family to Celebrate Wayne's Life at Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby (902-245-2525) on Sunday, June 30, 2019 from 1:30-3:30pm with a time to share at 2pm with a private family interment.
