Born Jan. 27, 1948 to parents Pete and Jeanett Harms, Dennis was raised in Dinuba, Calif., on the family farm, where he learned a variety of skills, including raising a variety of crops and animals, mechanical and electrical work, and welding.
On Nov. 13, 1971, Dennis married Vicki Martin, and they had two children, daughter Janice and son Daniel. They were married 35 years before Vicki passed in December of 2006. Both Dennis and Vicki were baptized in 1978 and became members of the Dinuba Mennonite Brethren Church, where they attended and served.
Dennis worked at McMahon’s Furniture in Dinuba, and also Sadoian Bros. in Sultana, as a farm mechanic, before returning to Harms Farms, Inc., his family’s farm. In the 60+ years that he spent farming, he worked with his father Pete to tend their raisin grapes in Dinuba and Monson, then later peaches and pistachios in the Dinuba/Cutler area. Dennis did the majority of the repairs on the farm equipment, and was a skilled “handy man” of many talents.
Anyone who knew Dennis knew him for his unique sense of humor, and his commitment to God, his family, and his friends. He deeply cared about his loved ones, and cherished the time he had with them.
Dennis is survived by his children, Janice Hoy and Daniel Harms, five grandchildren, and his sister, Susan Harms and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Vicki, parents Pete and Jeanett, and brother Darryl.
