Another MBAite sleeps in Jesus.  Heaven will be so wonderful.  What a reunion we will have up there.

I met Herb when Mary and Herb were dating, years ago!!  We spent many happy hours that first summer in my aunt and uncle's pool.  I was honored to be a bridesmaid in their wedding.  I often took my children to their home to visit.  I admired the flowers in the yard and Mary once said Herb was  particular that they must be spaced just so!  My yard is just the opposite.  When my son was a toddler, we were all at a pizza parlor and all the kids were begging money from Herb to play the games. As my son did not have a daddy,  he did not know the meaning of the word.  He followed Herb's kids up to him and and called out" Please Daddy, can I have some money ,too."  Herb said "its  okay he can call me whatever he wants".  One visit to the ranch my son proclaimed he had picked an orange tree and was going to eat every orange on that tree by the end of the week. When we left he said" Mom, it doesn't even look like I may a dent in that tree. Herb's joy for life and infectious laugh will be missed by his many friends and relatives.  Good bye Herb, till we meet again in Heaven.

Tuesday night my brother-in-law Herb Toews went to sleep in Jesus. Altho he had had some medical issues for a number of years, it still does not seem real to me. I think of him deep in study and teaching a Bible class at church or singing. I remember him caring for his orange groves and his roses and cactus. I remember his love of cats and birds which he manged to keep separate. I remember him getting up in the middle of the night when the frost alarm went off.

I remember him cooking corn dogs and Orosi vegeburgers to help raise money for our Pathfinders. I remember the many Pathfinder outings we went on. I remember him attending meeting after meeting at Soquel. I remember him proudly attending events of his children and grandchildren. I remember how he vigorously supported the schools they went to. I remember the deep friendship that developed between him and Ed Wagner. I remember him supporting DJA many years after his children left there. I remember him seriously getting into decorating the church for Jacob's wedding shower doing things inside the social hall I did not think possible - a fish pond? I remember him attending work bees to fix things and when the the church expanded it's borders. I remember his passion for building a baptistry.

I remember his love and support not only for my sister but for all of us, her family. I remember him sending John and me real California oranges in Nebraska. I remember how he helped my sister in the many projects she was involved in. I remember how he drove all over the USA with her doing genealogy research. I remember him being involved in the local community of Orange Cove, especially the fire department. I remember how he went from hospital to hospital hunting for Harold after the tragic Perez accident. I remember his enjoyment of football. I remember how he loved model trains. I remember how he loved to pull a prank. I remember how he loved to talk about God.

I think God had to make a lot of room in His master data bank to store all the experiences and likes and vision of Herb so they will be there to down

load when He wakes Herb up and presents him with a new body.

Herb was the best big brother a sister could ask for.  I spent many summer days on the weed oiler spraying weeds in the orchards. Me sitting in silence while Herb had 2 transistor radios going listening to baseball games. I had measles when I was little. He was driving the school bus for Reedley high. When he came home he got off the bus carrying a big teddy bear. There are so many memories that will never be forgotten.  I will miss him dearly.

Growing up so close together it seemed we were always doing stuff together. Whether it was going to school, pathfinders, church, music camps/festivals - Uncle Herb was always there to support the various events we were involved in. When he had his first stroke it did not diminish his support of the church, school, pathfinders, etc...... He was always there. Now it will be his memory that we will have to take with us as we continue on life's journey. I can't wait to meet him again when he wakes up at the Second Coming of Jesus when we will all be made new!

I knew Herb from MBA.  In summer I would always enjoy visiting with him at campmeeting in Soquel and talking about school days.
He was a nice guy and will be missed.

I met Herb when I attended Monterey Bay Academy. Since I grew up on a farm, we became friends and enjoyed that relationship for years. I frequently met him at Campmeeting in Soquel, CA in later years. I will miss Herb on this earth but look forward to renewing that relationship when Jesus comes to make up His jewels.
