Michael, 30, of Hanford, CA, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home alone with his Mama. Michael was born in Reedley, CA to Andria Wood and Anthony Zuniga. At the age of 3 he was adopted by Richard Romo, Sr. of Dinuba.
Michael, also referred to as Mikey by all who knew him, his early life was in Dinuba, CA. He played Pop Warner Football and made lifelong friendships during his time here. He loved to tell all he played football with Marcus McMarion, who would go on to a football career with Fresno State. He always felt so honored to play football with him in his youth. When Mikey was in high school, his family moved to Lemoore, CA because Kings County had a school called Shelly Beard and felt Michael would benefit from their resources, and he did!! He thrived there and went on to the Independent Living Program after high school. Michael was such a blessing and asset to his fellow classmates. He was the guided arm for the vision impaired, the strong friend when a wheelchair push was needed, and the jokester when all needed a laugh. Everyone in that program loved him and sang his praises. That is true for every program or class Mikey was in. In Kings County Mikey joined the Special Olympics team and again would meet his lifelong buddies and fellow athletes. Mikey excelled in track, basketball, bowling, and floor hockey. He loved all his teammates, coaches, and mentors. He was passionate about sports and a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. He would quote you stats, knew the players, and one of his cherished mementos is a signed football by Dak Prescott and Ezekial Elliott, that he had signed at the Cowboys training camp. Michael loved many things but his gaming and music are up there in a tie for each other. If he wasn't gaming on his Xbox or PlayStation, he was singing his music, and sometimes both at the same time. He loved all genres of music from country to Christian rap and everything in between. There are several videos of him everywhere singing his karaoke.
Michael was a participant at Central Valley Training Center of Visalia for the past few years up until the time of his death and again, would make beautiful friendships. He was loved by all and was truly a blessing to them. He was working hard to gain his independence and live on his own. He was looking forward to obtaining his driver’s license as well. Michael loved his friends and his family. But what he loved the most was being a brother. He adored his older and younger Bros, as he lovingly referred to them. They would constantly tease each other and Michael loved making them laugh. From the time Michael was born to the time he went home, they loved and fiercely protected him. They will forever be their brothers' keeper. Mikey was also the BEST Tio Kikie (as they called him) to all 6 of his nieces and nephews.
Our Michael, Mikey, Kikie, was a joy and a gift from God. His tender heart, BIG hugs, and infectious laugh will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of being in his presence. His absence has left a gaping hole to all who knew him. He will live on and his memory and unconditional love will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. We all will honor him by living the Michael Way.
Michael is survived by his parents, Richard and Andria Romo of Hanford, CA. His older brother, Andrew Lucatero, of Visalia, CA. His younger brother Richard Romo, Jr. of Hanford, CA. 3 nieces, 3 nephews. His maternal grandmother Peggy Wood Wager and her husband Don Wager of Lemoore, CA. His father Anthony Zuniga, of Dinuba, CA. Grandparents John and Irene Romo of Parlier, CA. Great Grandmother Linda Wood of Palmyra Ill. Several tias and tios, cousins, friends and family.
