Nicholas “Nick” Uribe was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 42, whose presence brought love, laughter, and warmth to the lives of so many. A lifelong resident of Fresno, California, Nick will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
Nick was born to his loving parents, Mary Schmidt and Larry Uribe, and was the beloved brother of his one and only sister, Elizabeth. From the beginning, Nick brought a special energy and personality into his family. He grew up surrounded by the people he loved, and family remained at the center of his life throughout the years. He was someone who showed up for the people he cared about, always willing to help, lend a hand, or simply be there when he was needed.
After graduating from high school, Nick attended Fresno City College before transferring to Fresno State, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology. He dedicated more than 10 years of his career to Frito-Lay before beginning a ten-year career with the Madera County Probation Department. His commitment to serving others was an important part of his life, and the same sense of responsibility and loyalty he brought to his work was reflected in the way he cared for the people around him.
Nick had a personality that was impossible to forget. He was the jokester of the bunch and had a natural gift for making people laugh. He loved being around family and friends and could turn an ordinary moment into a memory simply by being himself. His humor, his stories, and the laughter he brought with him will be deeply missed.
He was also a passionate sports fan. Nick watched ESPN daily and loved following his favorite teams. He especially enjoyed tailgating and traveling to different sporting venues to watch his teams play. For Nick, sports were about more than the games themselves—they were opportunities to get together, have a good time, and share experiences with the people he loved.
But as much as Nick loved sports, family was always what mattered most to him. Above all, Nick loved being a father. He cherished his son, Nico, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with him. Whether taking Nico along in his truck to run errands, visiting family and friends, attending events, or simply having him by his side, Nick found joy in the everyday moments they shared. He loved being Nico’s dad, and those memories will remain a precious part of Nico’s life forever. The love Nick had for his son was deep, unconditional, and evident in all the time he made for him.
That same love extended to his nephews, whom Nick cherished deeply. He was the kind of uncle who was always there when they needed him. He offered his time, his guidance, his encouragement, and, of course, plenty of laughter. His nephews knew they could count on their uncle, and the bond they shared with him was something truly special. The memories they made together will remain in their hearts for years to come.
Nick was equally devoted to his parents. He loved his mother, Mary, and his father, Larry, deeply and was always there when they needed him. Helping his family came naturally to Nick. He never hesitated to lend a hand, and his big heart was perhaps most evident in the way he cared for those closest to him.
His relationship with his sister Liz was especially meaningful. As his one and only sibling, she shared a bond with Nick that was unique and irreplaceable. He was always there whenever she needed him and never turned away. Their relationship was built on love, loyalty, and a lifetime of shared memories. She could count on her brother, and he could count on her. The loss of Nick leaves a place in her heart that can never be filled.
Nick also shared a special bond with his brother-in-law, Turi. Some of their best moments were found in the simplest things—spending time together outdoors while Turi barbecued, enjoying good food, talking, laughing, and just being together. Nick genuinely enjoyed those times. When Nick needed help, Turi was always there to lend a helping hand, something Nick deeply appreciated. And when Turi needed him, Nick was there too. Their relationship was one of mutual respect, friendship, and family, and the time they shared will always be treasured.
This was Nick—someone who loved deeply, laughed often, and showed his love through his presence and the things he did for others. He was the person family could call when they needed help, the uncle who could make his nephews laugh, the brother who was always there, the son who cared deeply for his parents, and the father who treasured every moment with his son. He gave people something that cannot be replaced: the feeling that they were loved, supported, and never alone.
Nick was preceded in death by his father, Larry Uribe, and is survived by his mother, Mary Schmidt; his beloved son, Nicholas James Uribe; his sister, Elizabeth Uribe-De Lira; his brother-in-law, Arturo De Lira; and his nephews, Israel Isaiah Rubio, Joseph Christian De Lira, and Matthew Jacob De Lira.
Nick will be remembered for his big heart, his loyalty, his humor, his love of sports, and the countless ways he showed up for the people he loved. His laughter will be missed at family gatherings. His absence will be felt in the everyday moments when someone wishes they could call him, talk to him, or simply have him there. But the love he gave and the memories he created will remain.
Though Nick is no longer with us, the life he lived and the love he shared continue through his son, his family, his friends, and everyone whose life he touched. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories—of laughter, family, friendship, sports, barbecues, road trips, helping hands, and ordinary moments that became extraordinary simply because Nick was there.
He will be loved, he will be missed, and he will never be forgotten.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas James Uribe, Israel Isaiah Rubio, Joseph Christian De Lira, Matthew Jacob De Lira, and Arturo De Lira.
