Pedro “Pete” Gonzalez, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 8, 1949, in Selma, California, to Donato and Inez Gonzalez, Pete’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication, courage, and love.
Raised in Seville alongside his beloved sister Lucia and both of his younger brothers Richard and Joey—who now watches over him from the heavens—Pete was nurtured by his father’s guidance and developed a lifelong passion for baseball, shining as a gifted pitcher in his youth.
In 1968, after graduating from Woodlake High School, Pete answered the call of duty and proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Serving with honor and valor in the 4th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, he exemplified the highest ideals of service and sacrifice for his country. Returning home with an honorable discharge, Pete’s commitment to justice did not waver.
Embracing the spirit of the American dream and the fight for equality, Pete joined the historic farm workers’ movement, La Causa, led by César Chávez and Dolores Huerta. His passion for dignity and fairness carried him far, bringing him to Manhattan, New York, where destiny introduced him to Victoria—the love of his life and fellow warrior for justice.
On February 13, 1975, Pete and Victoria united in marriage in Reno, Nevada, forging a partnership built on love, resilience, and shared purpose. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising their son Richard and daughter Monica with the same values that guided their lives—faith, courage, and compassion.
Pedro devoted 29 years of hard work to Sun-Maid before retiring, but his true joy was found in the embrace of family, especially his four grandchildren—Devin, Jaden, Janiesa, and Jayceon—who brought endless light and laughter into his life.
Pete will be remembered not only for his strength and bravery but for the depth of his compassion and his steadfast devotion to those he loved. His legacy of service to country, community, and family will forever inspire all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria Gonzalez; his children, Richard Gonzalez and Monica Gonzalez-LeSueur; his treasured grandchildren; his sister Lucia; and his extended family including niece Christina and nephews Michael and Marco.
Pete’s life was a shining example of patriotism, love, and resilience—a true American hero whose spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
