Having just yesterday learned of Susan's passing over five months ago, I regret having missed her services to grieve her loss with her family.
	Susan was a particularly good friend of mine when we moved to the then new courtrooms on the seventh floor. That was in about 1990, I think. She was the secretary for three of us judges on that floor then. She was busy and became more busy when two more judges moved up. She was treasured by all of us. We each vied to be her favorite so that our needs were taken care of first. In fact, though, I was her favorite. I brought her roses from my garden every week.
	In the ten years we worked together before my retirement, Susan not only fulfilled the demands of court secretary, but also helped me with historical articles I authored highlighting some of the early judges who had served on the Fresno Superior Court. When I say “helped,” she not only typed up my scribblings (which she was very adept at deciphering), but she contributed suggestions that improved the writing. She and I also worked on many special projects together. Often I would return her prepared documents to her for corrections, improvements and revisions. Sometimes this would occur several times. She would always comply with a smile.
	But, if Susan disliked all my revisions, she got her revenge. There came a time when computers with word processors appeared in all the judge's chambers and courtrooms. The plan was to have every judge prepare his or her own documents. It took a while to learn how to do this, but when I felt that I finally had the hang of it, I would send my creation to Susan for her review. Now I was the recipient of returned documents with notes and red pencil marks. Often it would take several of her returns before we were both satisfied.
	Susan was a wonderful person and a great legal secretary. It was a pleasure to know her and work with her.

I worked with Susan at Fresno Superior Court and really enjoyed her company. I really miss her and my other friends at the court. We have moved to Irvine and are now in the process of moving to Japan to be closer to my mom who is 87 and in declining health. My sincerest condolences to your family. Much love and Aloha.
