

Ann Frieda Fass, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016 in her home at Country Meadows Retirement Community in York, Pennsylvania. Born in Brooklyn, NY to parents Morris and Fannie Schwartz on November 13, 1923, she grew up in Jamaica, NY. Shortly after her marriage to Irving, her husband of 66 years, they moved to Carle Place, NY. She was sister to the late Sol Schwartz and Sam Schwartz.
Ann is survived by her husband, brother Lester Schwartz, and her children Marilyn Neuburger and Steven Fass. She had another daughter, the late Deena Schmidt. She leaves three grandchildren, Rebecca Bailey, Karen Ray and Mark Neuburger, as well as two sons-in-law, David Neuburger and Joseph Schmidt.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Ann worked in an Army depot during WWII and later worked as a telephone operator and in the offices of the New York Telephone Company. She retired in 1989, after which she volunteered as a teacher’s aide at a school for handicapped children. Ann was a long-time member and active volunteer of Congregation Beth Sholom in Mineola, where she served as President of the Sisterhood. Always concerned with her community, social justice, and helping others less fortunate, Ann also engaged in political and community projects to help make the world a better place.
Funeral services will take place at 9:30 AM on Monday, April 25th at IJ Morris, 21 East Deer Park Road, Dix Hills, New York 11746. Burial will follow at New Montefiore Cemetery immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
