ARLENE HARRIET HAMMER DORFMAN was born to Milton (Moe) and Sylvia Hammer in Brooklyn. Like most Brooklyn Jewish babies in the 30’s, she always knew that she would be something special. That she was. She met my father at 14, married him at 18, had Debbie at 22, me at 24, and Erica at 30. She gave up her dreams of being an actress to be a mother but found her stage when she began teaching. She related to her students in a way that created a bond that never wavered.
She was stunning – yet the most important trait to her was intelligence. She was cultured – she introduced us all to theatre and museums and music and books. She loved to travel, she loved to be the light that she was.
She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, cousin, aunt, grandmother, mother in law, teacher, and friend. She was just about to be the devoted great grandmother when her long life was cut short.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years Jerry, her children Debbie and Craig, her son in law Ali , her grandson Micheal, her granddaughter in law Christie, her great granddaughter Natalie, her dog Lulu, her beloved Aunt Frances, and her many friends, She was predeceased by her daughter Erica Karen.
