Bernard S Schensul

Schensul, Bernard S., loving husband of Ruth (Landy), caring father of Avis Gartin, devoted step-father of Pamela Schachter and Hal Landy and cherished step – grandfather of Lisa (Steve), Robert, Alex, Steve and Mark, passed away on March 7, 2012, at the age of 88. A veteran of World War II and the battle of the Bulge, Bernard was an ardent supporter of “Veterans for Peace”. He was an avid amateur photographer and showed locally on occasion. Nature was a common subject but he had a special eye for unusual man-made objects which he shot with irony and whimsy. Music and literature were an integral part of his life and his drive for knowledge was unbounded. Bernard’s wit and insight, especially regarding social issues, will be sorely missed by those who knew him best. Services will be held at I J Morris Dix Hills, on Thursday March 8, 2012 at 12:00pm, with interment to follow at the Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Flushing, NY. Shiva will be observed at the home of Ruth Schensul, 81 Harbour Lane. Bayshore, NY 11706. (Admiralty Development). In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice Care Network, and the Brightwaters / Bayshore Public Library.
