IN THE CARE OF
I. J. Morris
Carole Ruth Kissel passed away on Sunday, July 31,2022, at her home in Dix Hills, New York, at age 83. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Bella and Barney Fishstein.
Carole was surrounded by Samuel, her husband of sixty-two years, their three beloved children, Robert (Lindsey), Amy (Megan), and Edward (Paige); ten grandchildren, Zak, Nate (Julia), Nick, Rebekah, Emma, Hannah, Eli, Ezra, Levi, and Blake; and nephew Glenn. Carole is also survived by her brother, Harvey and sister, Eleanor.
A career educator and community organizer, Carole believed all children had the right to learn and had a deep intuition for those who needed an adult who could provide patience, kindness, and her special brand of humor. She was known to be able to teach “a rock to read” and worked as a tutor, teacher, and president of the substitute teachers’ union.
Carole defined what a mother and grandmother should be. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be remembered as a fiercely intellectual, passionate, and loving woman who was always a present and supportive mother and grandmother. There wasn’t a book she didn’t read or a crossword she didn’t finish, although she lost consistently in Scrabble against her children and nephew. She cursed the two-lettered words.
Our family would like to thank her nursing staff who supported our family over the past few years including, most importantly, Denise, Jodi, Marilyn, Diana and Muriel.
